Who is welcome at The Hive?

All home educating families with children aged 6 - 12 are welcome to participate, as we are an inclusive secular group. Younger siblings of those aged 6 - 12 are able to attend as well (along with parent(s)/adult guardian(s)). Due to space constraints, we will have a cap for the total number of participants each session. We will be open to accepting folks on a first-come/first-served basis until the cap is reached.

When do you meet?

We currently meet weekly on Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, with time for re-fueling as it suits our families. 10-week Fall session, concluding prior to Thanksgiving (U.S) and a 10-week Spring session, concluding prior to Memorial Day. For the Spring session, our Tuesdays may be abbreviated to 10 am to 1 pm (under consideration).

What is the cost to participate?

For 2018-2019, there will be a non-refundable $50 registration fee per family. There is currently a revision of the cost per participating child underway. We are doing our best to keep costs low for families but we still need to cover administrative costs (rent, insurance, website/community outreach and sponsorships, etc) and some group supplies, as well as waning to encourage participating families feel committed to attending. The planned participation cost for the next session (Spring) may be revised to be a BCAS family membership ($60) plus a nominal per child cost ($40 per child, or if enrolling more than 1 child per family, $30 per child). There may be additional materials fees required, depending on the activities decided on for the session. There are also occasional optional adventures (field trips) arranged (various days of the week, usually determined by the event/venue) during the sessions; these may have an additional cost to participate as well, as dictated by the community locations we plan to visit.
